Do you believe that it's important that a parent pay for their child's college education? Is this something that you've done or would do? Is it "wrong" to make the child carry the burden of a student loan? Should a parent ALREADY have it figured out in the budget, prior to having children how they plan to pay for their child's education?

Everybody's situation is different. Not everyone can pay for it. I won't pay 100% for my son. I want him to respect what he is working toward and I think having to be financially responsible for it to a degree is a good thing.

Agreed. They will respect it more if they are financially accountable to it. My ex-wife and I will pay for the tuition, but they're paying for the classes and books.

Most people who go to college wind up owing $40,000 or more in student loans, which they're going to be working their entire lives to pay back, which a lot of them probably won't for as long as they live, and I find that to be a poor reprsentative of the saying that education is its own reward. I don't have kids, but if I ever do, and I don't encourage college even though it is sooooo 'necessary', but I'm going to put money away for them for something when they finish high school, if they want to go to college or writing school or whatever, yeah I'll help them some.
