So, are we judged equally??

A man who kept his Freshman 15 or a girl who did? Equal, or are genders judged separate?

I realize that not all women OR men are subject to the Freshman 15...but no matter, considering age...

...I think that females are more judged and males are just written up, for the most part, as "bulking up" after high school.

To be completely honest, no. A man can pull off being twenty pounds overweight and not have anyone look down on him for it much easier than a woman can. However, it also has to be noted that men who're twenty pounds overweight (especially if they're tall) tend to have less body fat than a woman who is.

Definetly women are judged more than men when it comes to some extra pounds.

Extra weight? Probably. Extra years? Definitely! Especially in Hollywood. Men can get leading roles well into middle age and beyond but most women have to become character actresses if they want to keep working.

Women definitely are scrutinized more than men when it comes to being even just a little overweight.

No, men and women are not judged equally when it comes to a few extra pounds. Women are expected to have slim figure, but it's more acceptable if a man breaks out of that slim figure and is a little bit heavier. It's a pretty hypocritical rule, a double-standard.

Yes, it is the nature of our mainstream culture that svelt & young is pretty and women are more closely scrutinized for that than men. Probably because men are more inclined to judge on physical appearance and guess who most men are judging - women.

Women seem to be more tolerant of men with pot bellies (you know love the inner person and all that female nurturing stuff). I have noticed this with some really foxy women and their overweight, out of shape, pot-bellied husbands.

Now, we have to separate gay men from str8. Gay men, being men are probably more critical of other guys' personal appearance. And gay guys are killing themselves at the gym trying to look svelt enuf to get other guys' attention.

Even some of us old guys have given up all those tasty fattening foods and run our ragged legs off trying to be appealing to someone.

Oh, and you girls are gonna hate me for this but I often say that I would rather be an old man than an old woman. With the exception of Cher - how many 60-something women get scrutinized by young ppl.

Women are absolutely more scrutinized for being anything more than a size 6. By men and by females who like putting other women down. Hell, sometimes men get criticized for being thin (how crazy is that???) A man can have a 36 or a 38" waist and have that sort of "real" appeal that will work in his favor.

Women are definitely scrutinized more than men for their weight. How often do you see the tabloids screaming that this actress has put on weight or that actress has - rarely do they say the same about the men. It seems that when a man is overweight, it's chalked up to a beer gut, or whatever, and brushed off, whereas with a women, it's not brushed off nearly as easily, if at all.
