I think it's one of the classic sci-fi movies. I wouldn’t have minded the remake with Keanu Reeves as much if they would have at least had the originality to steer the plot back to that of the original story it’s based on, "Farewell to the Master", by Harry Bates. In that the robot, Gnut (not Gort) was the master, not Klaatu.

I liked the original. It was a great sci-fi movie of its time, that being the cold war where the whole world was paranoia driven and we kids were taught to "duck and cover" under our school desks in fear of nuclear bombs.

I also liked the remake, which not only used better special effects but changed the message to us destroying our planet in more insidious ways than blowing it up.

Except the whole new idea of kill mankind so the planet can survive was complete crap...if the aliens were going to inhabit the earth, which if memory serves was their intention, like they did 50 years ago when everybody thought Earth was still the epitome of best planet in the galaxy...today everybody knows it's a hellhole and aliens would have to be stupid or desperate to want to take it over now and if the new Klaatu is so smart, he could've found a more suitable planet than this one to commit genocide on all its inhabitants.

IDK, seemed pretty accurate assessment to me, unless you are biased toward humans. Neutral

But fact is we are the ones fucking up this planet - we are the blight of the natural order that has been going on for billions of years.

An artificial intelligence would come up with the simple solution - get rid of the human infestation then reintroduce all the other flora and fauna and let the beautiful planet thrive anew.

Except without mankind, who cares if the earth survives? Nobody's going to be around to enjoy it.

I saw the original and the re-make. The re-make with Reeves sucked, the original was much better.

ET might enjoy it as a galactic park. Remember AI may think with a different logic than humans.
