What does everybody think?

In the comments section, a lot of people are calling Billy the Kid a cold blooded murderer, no better than Jack the Ripper, or Ted Bundy, or Jeffrey Dahmer, that he had no conscience, these people are either ALL relatives of that gas bag Pat Garrett or they just have never bothered to look up the real history which shows he didn't gun down 21 people 1 for each year of his life, he didn't just blow people away for the hell of it, he killed 2 people in his life and the first one was a case of self defense. I say pardon him, why the hell not?

Edit: My error, 4 people, 2 of which were self defense, still quite a leap away from Pat Garrett's fabricated 21 in cold blood, one for every year of his life.

"Why would you pardon a cop killer?"

All those ppl are dead, so it matters not one whit to them. What is the point of exonnerating someone for some trivial thing when the fact is he killed two deputies in his escape?

If a pardon over a century later is warranted, he should then be tried for the murder of those two deputies and sentenced to having his pardon nulled.

My complaint is with the relatives of Pat Garrett, they're all defensive about this because they don't want his legacy tarnished or whatever...well let's see, he was a sheriff, he was told from the start that he shot the wrong man and he never made any attempt to prove people wrong on that, he wrote a book LYING about how many people Billy killed, increasing it by 17 non-existent bodies to make it sound like he did the world a favor by killing a 21 year old boy, oh yeah we wouldn't want people to think he wasn't the great savior of the wild west, would we?

I'm not a relative of Pat Garrett and he was not the only 19th Century self-invented man living a lie.

But still, even if Billy did not kill all those ppl he did kill the two deputies, a hangable offense even in those lawless times. So, when they prove that he did not kill the two guards in his escape from jail, then pardon him. But, fact is he was a murderer and it should be left as is.

Maybe clear up the history, even make a side note as to how history is erroneously recorded like much of our other cultural mythos. People tend to run over a cliff just like a bunch of lemmings. (That too is a myth BTW, created by Walt Disney)

A posthumous pardon was the systems way of trying to be funny.
