Westboro Baptist Church To Picket Funerals Of Arizona Shooting Victims

In a flier posted on its web site, the controversial church writes,
"THANK GOD FOR THE SHOOTER -- 6 DEAD!" The message continues:

God appointed this rod for your sins! God sent the shooter!
This hateful nation unleashed violent veterans on the servants of God
at WBC--hoping to silence our kind warning to obey God and flee the
wrath to come.

The flier claims that the shooting of both a House member and a federal judge -- the latter of whom was killed -- is god's punishment for judicial and Congressional action against the WBC. "God sent the shooter to shoot you! And He's sitting in Heaven laughing at you!" the announcement reads.

In graphic language, it continues:

Your federal judge is dead and your (fag-promoting,
baby-killing, proud-sinner) Congresswoman fights for her life. God is
avenging Himself on this rebellious house! WBC prays for your destruction--more shooters, more dead carcasses piling up, young, old, leader and commoner--all. Your doom is upon you!

In December, Westboro Baptist Church picketed the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards. The group is known to display signs that say "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God For Dead Soldiers."

WOW!! Speechless... dunno wat to say.

They are just hateful people, with hateful souls and a special place in Hell awaits them. Sometimes I wonder if they are a conspiracy against religion because they sure are driving people away from it.

I don't even get how they are a real church. They are just so awful.

Their "church" is made up of mostly their own family members, it's like 100 of them. Even the Baptist church community overall don't take the Westboro church seriously and see them as embarrassments.

On the bright side the Arizona legislature voted today that they can't be within 300 feet from 1 hour before & 1 hour after the service. But being the determined evil people they are they plan to picket 1000 feet away.

AZ lawmakers denounce hate church’s plan to picket funeral of a child

Phoenix, AZ — Arizona lawmakers voted unanimously Tuesday to pass emergency legislation that would block the controversial Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) from picketing near a funeral in that state.

Tueday's bipartisan legislative action is in response to WBC's planned protest at the funerals of those killed in the tragic shooting in Tucson, including the funeral of 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green.

"It is the most disgusting thing I ever read in my entire life. I literally threw up after I read it ... I'm like, 'I'm gonna fix this'," Democratic state senator Kyrsten Sinema told Fox News after reading Westboro's protest announcement.

The bill, which was proposed by Sinema, is based on similar legislation in Ohio. It now goes to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer for signature.

The new law will make it a misdemeanor to protest within 300 feet of a funeral from one hour before until one hour after a funeral.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of Westboro-founder Fred Phelps, told the Washington Post that "the prohibition wouldn't matter because church members plan to picket at one of two intersections more than 1,000 feet from the church where the girl's service will be held."

Tucson residents are planning an "angel action" where counter-protestors will wear 8-by-10 foot angel wings to shield mourners from the WBC church members – who carry signs with hateful and irreverent messages.

Westboro Baptist Church, is not affiliated with a larger denomination and is made up mostly of the 71-year-old Phelps' extended family. WBC is monitored by the Anti-Defamation League and is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Green was the youngest of six people killed during a shooting at an event held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), who was among the 14 people injured. Giffords remains in critical condition.

"church" is right. It's pretty much the Phelps & Roper families. Most of them are lawyers. They just love attention & lawsuits.

These people are just nuts.
