The Ghost Writer Empty The Ghost Writer

Post by JWF Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:42 pm

The first notable film I've seen in 2010. This contemporary political (intelligent) thriller is directed by one of our greatest directors: Roman Polanski. A master at storytelling. Not his best work, but plenty good enough

After a former British Prime Minister's (Pierce Brosnan) writer mysteriously drowns a ghost writer (Ewan McGregory) is hired to finish the PM's memoirs. The movie is fashioned like a Hitchcock thriller. As the Ghost Writer (no character name) becomes more and more curious about the PM's past, his own life becomes an ensnared web of danger. McGregory (almost in every scene) offers a corker of a performance. The film nicely safeguards the plot disclosure for the very final few minutes

It's not a film without some flaws and shortcomings. And I'm sure you all will identify the film with Blair and Bush, but lots of fun to watch as it unfold

    B+

I haven't seen it yet, but it's getting good reviews. It got an 81% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. I generally like Pierce Brosnan movies, so I can believe that it is worth watching. Can't decide though if it's worth taking in a weekend show to see, or if I should just wait for DVD/cable.
