Oh hell naw...I wouldn't grow my hair long again for ANYTHING, and that just looks plain uncomfortable.

I grow my hair long - but not for dreadlocks! I think those are so damn ugly and I agree with Super - they look so uncomfortable.

Sometimes depending on upkeep and the head their attached to they can look decent, but overall I've never been a fan and wouldn't sport that look. First of all, I'm not interested in growing my hair out for them and secondly, I don't like how once your hair is locked, it's locked and the only way to get rid of them is to cut them off.

It works for some people, but I personally wouldn't wear my hair like that.

A very, very hit or miss style IMO. Some people pull it off, but most don't. I would have considered it (but not seriously) when I was younger and going through a rebellion stage, but I think I'm past the age where that look is acceptable.

LOL @ the attitudes on here. Anyone who has anything negative to say about dreads are completely ignorant of them. They're natural and they're beautiful, especially when you maintain them the way you're supposed to. Anyone who thinks it's 'ugly' for someone to wear their natural hair is completely retarded. It's a lot better and much healthier than that processed, chemically fried and blowdried, hair full of gunk (mousse, gel, etc) bullshit that most of you are used to. And they're not 'uncomfortable' at all. LOL, (smh). In any case, I love the look of dreads. I have friends who have dreads and theirs are beautiful. Would I grow my hair out like that? Maybe in the future. The only reason I don't have dreads now is because I don't have the patience or the time to upkeep them they way I would want to.

Umm, NO. I don't know who told you that, but you don't have to cut off your hair when it's locked if you don't want to. You can strip the dreads out.

I really didn't know anything about them, until I did some research because I had a tie dye order for some "Rasta" colored stuff for a lady who runs a shop in the mall. I didn't feel comfortable making them until I did some research and figured out what the movement was all about. I know that is weird but tie dye is really a creative spiritual process for me and when I make them I spend the time focusing on a positive mantra, for this batch I'm talking about it was "What if heaven is all around us, waiting for us to notice" so I print that on the tags...Anyway it's all about trying to make them a happily charged item so the person who wears it is in a good mood when they do (like the opposite of something made in a sweatshop by a tortured person)...

It IS weird I guess but I just wanted to know what I was doing, making the red, yellow and green shirts. So I did my research and learned a lot about dreads and I have to say that whenever I see a person with really long dreads now I feel the same way I do when I see a person in a priest's outfit or a monk's robes. I feel like they must be a person who has been on their own spiritual path for a long time. It's probably totally naive but I always think "that's really great".

I know there are lots of people who just have them to have them though. Personally they aren't for me because I'm not a person who can commit to a hairstyle, I need to change it up all the time. Also I'd feel silly, being a geeky white girl (even though I know anyone can have them).

Yes, dreadlocks are symbolic of the Rasta faith. But you don't have to have them to be one. Most *true* Rastas don't upkeep their dreads the way you might see people do here in America. Their dreads are considered 'natty'. They just let them grow wild and those are considered the real dreadlocks.

I know there are lots of people who just have them to have them though.

Most people have them just to have them. Upkept dreads are fashionable dreads. I can dig it however, because that's what I do prefer and I think it's easier to have a professional look while maintaining your cultural heritage.

I actually don't think it looks good to see a white person with dreads. You guys don't really have the hair texture for it.

I definitely see a difference in the hair of the people who are in this woman's family and say, the photos above. Theirs are more wild and long and free looking. Also bigger looking. She's such a nice woman, plus I love to hear about her travels all over the world.

They can come undone but depending on how thick they are I imagine it can be hard as fuck in some cases to undo em.

I'm going to co-sign this with an asterisk, LOL. I think dreads can be lovely and sexy, but some people do not look good in them. There is nothing worse than what I call a "big head in dreads", people with huge heads and fat faces in dreads. Not cute.

    Overall, I like them.

I like the look if they are maintained. Some I have seen were not good looking at all as it was clear they were not maintained.

The other thing that doesn't favor the look of dreads is when they are gray. If you got gray hair and you still wanna rock your dreads, then you ought to be breaking out the Clairol or Just For Men or something. That's the only time when I don't find them cute. A head full of gray....and I do mean gray.....dreadlock are not the business.
