Child sex in literature: Right or Wrong? Empty Child sex in literature: Right or Wrong?

    Hi all,

How do you feel about children engaging in sex acts in literature? Mind you, the child's (if based on a real child) identity is diguised. And I mean children engaging in these things in writings, not in photographs or films. Right or wrong?

I guess it all depends on the intentions of the author. I've read several novels that tell a coming of age story that features teenage sex. When it comes to literature, I can be more lenient about youth sexuality than in film. Sometimes you need to have some realism in art and the truth is that most people become sexually active in their teens.

Yeah, like Romeo & Juliet. They were 15 or 16.

I guess it depends on the context. Since no real people are involved, I think there is more wiggle room. And I guess it depends on what we call "sex." So for this, I take it on a case by case basic.

It would depend on the age. I've read some good books that deal with teen pregnancy and the aftermath of teen sex but it all depends on how it's handled.

So long as it wasn't designed to be a pedophiles pamphlet, child sex in literature can be permissible if it isn't being celebrated, and is in context to a greater story.
