The question is this, can an Intelligence which is of artificial life be considered sentient and indeed equal with Organic Intelligence?

Should we ever develop "robots" who are say like Data from Star Trek or Andrew from The Bicentennial Man should they have access to the same human rights as mankind?

If this AI was within the operating parameters of Data on ST, then Yes.

This debate was done in many episodes of that fiction and should we ever attain that level of AI, then we have to consider it as a life form.

Same for if we ever encounter extraterrestrial forms of life that may not resemble ours (Including a possibility of AI). If a machine is sentient, knows its own mortality and acts to preserve itself then it may be time to afford it rights.

Just because this is all supposition, never discount that it goes beyond possibility.

If we get to that point, but human emotions are extremely complex and diverse. I don't see how those could be truly replicated. I work with children with autism and that's something they have a REALLY hard time with in many cases. They have to learn emotions and learn how to react in situations.
