| I was cleaning out some stuff in the basement a few days ago, and came across a container of old 8-track tapes belonging to my parents that mistakenly got mixed into one of my boxes when I was moving. What amazed me was some of the music. They had a Jefferson Starship tape. The debut album from Earth, Wind & Fire and even an 8-track of Captain and Tennille. When I called my mom and asked her if she wanted them back, she said no. lol
I imagine there are some Chamber family here who don't even know what 8-tracks are, but I'll ask anyway: do you have any? Have you ever?

| Not for years. But it's hilarious now the things people just accepted without thinking about it. Like when there wasn't enough room on the "channel" for the entire song & it would click over in the middle of it to continue on the next one. lol That wouldn't go over very well today. | |

| All my tapes and any players I had are in a land fill somewhere. They are one thing about the good old days that I will never miss. | |

| I remember being about four years old, and my mom having an 8-track player (held over from the '70s.) Being a busybody even at that age, I would bug my mom to play it for me. It would only play the first track. None of the others were audible. | |

| My Mom had several 8-tracks when I was little, but the music on them was so awful, I guess we just threw them out. I have no desire to get anymore, let's say. | |

| According to this site it was 1988 - Quote :
- WORLD'S LAST 8-TRACK TAPE
THE LONGEST LIST OF THE LONGEST STUFF AT THE LONGEST DOMAIN NAME AT LONG LAST
For some strange reason after a boom in the 1970's 8-track tapes just never made it and by the mid 1980's they were all but history.
We do not know what the world's last 8-track tape was, they may still be in production in some far away land, but we do know that 'Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits', released by Warner Brothers in 1988, was the last 8-track tape produced by a major company.

| No and no. I do remember my grandmother having one when I was very little, but it was hardly ever played. She prob. got rid of it before I could even ask what it was exactly. Cassette tapes were the norm around my earliest memories. However, we had a record player that we played on a regular basis all the way up into the 90's. I remember that distinctly. | |

| I remember them in the late '70s. Jim and I had a player and small box of tapes. We moved a lot and didn't invest in a lot of electronics, so I guess we got it at a Goodwill or someplace. Tapes were still being sold in the cheap bin at Jefferson-Ward here in Miami. I guess the advantage was they were smaller and lighter than the LP records (but I think LP's had better sound quality.) As I recall, they were continuous play, no rewinding or flipping over. | |

Yes but even that wasn't always a good thing. I had numerous songs interrupted on one track and continued on the next. When I finally switched over to cassettes it was weird (in a good way) hearing the song uninterrupted.

| My dad had one, but it was in the basement and sat on a shelf in a storeroom. I don't remember it ever being used, and I'm thinking that it probably no longer worked. He just for whatever reason didn't throw it out. | |

| My dad still had some a few years ago when he bought a small 70's camper trailer. We tried them out and rocked out the the Statler Brothers for a while! | |
