Do you go for butter or margarine? I grew up with margarine, mainly because that's what my mother thought was best. However, personally, like the taste of butter much better. I keep both on hand, mainly because margarine is easier to cook with and doesn't burn as easily, but butter has the best flavor.

Re: Butter or Margarine?
I'm no expert on the flavor but I prefer butter because it is the more natural thing, and I think that's good here, because you look on a box of butter at the ingredients and it has TWO things: cream and salt, check out the ingredients on the margarine, can you even pronounce half that stuff? And why is everything in it hydrogenated and whatever? For my money, I'd rather go with the butter.

Re: Butter or Margarine?
We have both in the house. It depends on what I'm using it for because the margarine is more spreadable.

Re: Butter or Margarine?
Neither
is on my reduced fat diet so I don't buy either.
But when it's available such as restaurants I will go off diet for butter because the flavor is worth it.

Re: Butter or Margarine?
One thing about margarine though, you DO have to watch what kind you get, because if it's 70% oil margarine, you can't cook with that, you put that in a frying pan for lubrication, you are going to burn whatever the hell you are cooking, if you put it in cookie dough, that's fine, but for cooking you want something that doesn't boast of its high oil content.

Re: Butter or Margarine?
I recall Mama used to use Margerine more in cooking things, she never gave it to us as a replacement for butter.
