I'm guilty of some of these("mannaise") but I think it's due to accent.

But that doesn't excuse me saying "card shark." LOL

Interesting list with some good reminders....

My brother, who dabbled in real estate, corrected me when I said "realator" once. I'me pretty good about most of the others, especially "masonry".

I noticed these two weren't on the list. Caribbean and gondola. It might not be a case of the right way or the wrong way to say either but people tend to pronounce each one of two ways.

One I didn't see on that list that most people in the midwest do is mispronounce God. My professor noted that in most places, people pronounce God like Gawd....but here in Michigan, we say "G-odd" (like "odd" with a 'G' on top.)

"Praaaaaaiiiseeee Gaaaaaaaawwwwwd". I remember watching an interview with Bizzy Bone on Rap City one day and I swear he enunciated the hell out of Gawd. I was cracking the fuck up.

But yeah, I pronounce God like odd too.

I knew most on that list and even one they missed "ophthalmologist" (same as diphtheria).

I found this one interesting:

"Don't say: off ten | Do say: ofen"

Oh, I pronounce it 'ofen' but I discovered back in the '90s that some bots needed to be informed about that word.

It was before I had a computer and I submitted an article on paper, double spaced as required. I wasn't aware at the time that magazines were using scanners to transcribe paper submissions. I found that out when the article appeared in print and my word "often" was printed "of 10."

Something else we tend to say in Michigan: "AK-cidih," in place of accident. We also pronounce fire "FI-yerr."

Everyone in the south knows it's "far" (not to be confused with the county far-where they have the rydes)
