| Our old much-loved cat died in early January. We swore we would never have another cat because we are getting old. Two weeks later we at the pound selecting a new cat. How do you select a cat? Our method is simple, we pick up a candidate and if the cat melts against you and starts purring, that's the one. We wanted an adult female that had been spayed. Our new cat was supposed to be about two years old and had been abandoned and was classed as a stray. When we got her home, we showed her the kitty box and where it was located and she used it from then on. We always keep our cats indoors. She has never asked to go out. Fortunately, we found that she is a very well mannered cat and knew she wasn't allowed on tables or counter tops although she sometimes does when she thinks she won't get caught. She isn't the prettiest cat and has a really high timid voice sounding more like a squeak than a meow so we named her Squeak. | |

| I haven't had any pets in a while. One of my apartments had a gecko living with me, but other than giving each other space there wasn't much interaction. She made the rounds each evening in the apartment. I knew it was a she because I found a little egg in one of my potted plants.
The last real pet I had was a gerbil. I like rodents and before the gerbil had a mouse. I would like to have a rat but then when I went traveling who would take care of it? A six-pound Gambian Pouch rat would be nice but they are now illegal in Florida (they are running wild on one of our keys - eventually I'll see one here)

| If Time and I didn't have someone who would become the guardian to our cat we wouldn't have gotten her. But our son would gladly look after her if we should predecease her. | |

Awww...Squeak is so adorable! Good for you guys for getting her. I have one dog. He is a long haired Chihuahua. My parents always had Chihuahuas so I wanted a small breed dog as well. He is certainly the dog made for our family. He travels well and though he scares easily, you can fire up a dirt bike that he is laying right next to and he doesn't bat an eye. He is a spoiled mess, but perfect at the same time!

| There is a pet thread here--yay! Here's my kitties--Shadow and Mia: Shadow is a Maine Coon and a huge Mama's Boy: Mia is a Ragdoll breed and if I had to rename her, she'd be "Anna Nicole"--beautiful, but not a lot going on upstairs! LOL | |

Thanks! By extension, I have many more cats, as all the neighborhood cats come to visit me when I'm outside in the yard and they're passing through, so I call them my "Kitty Friends" and pet them and sometimes slip them a treat--lol! I've always been sort of a "cat magnet" and they congregate on my property.

| A 15 year old calico cat, Shelby; and an 11 year old Keeshond dog, Chancey.
They are pampered pets. Both came from homes they were born in, and never have known pet shops, shelters, or the street. They are both unbearably sweet.
I would love someday to have a hand in making an animal's life better. I am open to it if the universe dictates.

| We have two cats, Goldie and Domino. They couldn't be more different - Goldie is the uptight, nervous, shy one while Domino is the laidback, easy-going one. I love them both dearly. Pets certainly add life to the house, and they truly are a part of the family. | |

I also have a number of tropical fish in my 50g aquarium. Tiger barbs, neon tetras and an albino rainbow shark. I want one of these. I'm looking into getting an aquarium with a number of tropical fish. I don't want a bullshit one either. I've heard they have some that light up and I definitely want one of those. Are they expensive to upkeep? It's kind of expensive at the beginning, but not really that expensive compared the life costs of having a dog or a cat. Obviously, you have to buy the aquirium which can be pretty pricy depending on how big of a tank you get. The fish range in price, but are pretty cheap over all. But you really have to know what kind of fish you want to put in there and which fish can co-habitate with other fish. I had my tank setup the same way now when I first started. I initially had redwag and sunburst platy's, two bala sharks, the albino rainbow shark I have in there now and another rainbow shark. I had to take the second rainbow out because they are very territorial and become aggresive towards members of their own species. The platy's have a pretty short lifespan and they all died within a few months. I replaced them with tiger barbs which seem to be a little more resilient (and more entertaining). And the bala sharks (Bill and Ted) both died of an "ich" infection. Apparently they are really sensitive fish. Some fish are more adaptable and resilient than others.
