Secretly hating someone you pretend to like

You ever pretend to like someone you really couldn't stand? Not a situation where its vital to pretend you like them, like with a boss. But because they never actually did anything wrong to you directly and were actually friendly where you're concerned and so you almost have to pretend that you like them else you'd be the jerk for being negative.

There is a guy I work with who is fairly friendly and nice to me. I make friendly small talk with him and pretend to not have a problem with him whatsoever, but secretly I borderline hate him. Just about everyone else there hates or dislikes him because he can be a jerk but I'm one of the few he hasn't directly affronted and it's like he knows it and so he avoids doing or saying anything to turn me off but wow just the sight of him at times puts me on edge.

Yeah there are a number of people I am not overly fond of and I pretend that I like them a lot so I won't hurt their feelings. I try my best to avoid them if I can but if face to face with them, I will be nice and civil. As a rule I truly don't like to dislike people.

Yes. Even if it doesn't go as far as my pretending to like them, there are people I know who I pretend that I am at the very least 'apathetic' towards. Like you say, they haven't done anything to decidedly scorn me personally, so I have no just cause to be openly hostile towards them, but in general I don't like their attitude or their even their general presence.

I can't think of any one I know who I'm like that with. I'm probably the object of this discussion for others.

No. If I have that much contention for someone, then I can't pretend to like them, even if they haven't really "done" anything to me. The most I can do is limit communicating with them as much as possible.

yea there have been a few like family/friends an they would have boyfriend/girlfriends that i wouldnt like... out respect for my friend/family i would be nice/civil to that person.

To answer the question....
No. If I don't like somebody the most I can do is be faux-cordial when a situation forces me to interact with them. I won't give off a vibe that makes them think that I like them more than I actually do. For the most part I avoid interacting with them altogether

Not "hate" no i couldnt but there are some people whose personalities i dont like but cuz they never fucked with me i can smile @. i dont think its me being fake its more me not giving a damn enuff to bother frowning. But if its somebody who i HAVE had runins with then who knows how i might react to them, i might smile or joke to brush them off or i may have to be mean it depends.

I'm not sure if I hate anyone. I think of hate as a very strong, intense, consuming feeling. It seems that to hate someone would suck up a lot of energy. I think I might hate one individual, but he lives very far away, I haven't seen him in over 18 years, and ever since I blocked him on Facebook I haven't heard from him, so I don't think about him much. Hating someone you see all the time has to be awfully draining!

There are a couple of people I strongly dislike, and no, I cannot pretend to like them. I am civil towards them and try to limit interaction with them, but I'm certainly not friendly.

I don't think that I hate anyone. I don't really know that I dislike anyone either. I don't like the actions of some people that I know, I think I mentioned before that I have a hard time being friends in real life with people who spank their children...But being a SAHM, I'm not really forced to interact with anyone so I just don't have contact with them.

No but I do sometimes pretend that I don't dislike them as much as I may do.

Yup - there are a couple of coworkers that I'm not overly fond of but will pretend to like, or at least be amicable around. I don't hate anyone, but there are some people I'm not that fond of.
