Just because......

......I said I was treating doesn't mean you go and order the most expensive thing on the damn menu. It seems like they never get what they actually like, but get what is hands down the most expensive thing the restaurant serves. I took my friend to Benihana's last night for his birthday. And yeah, I said it was my treat, but damn.....why do people take advantage of it? Esp when I told him this was not a pay week for me. I can order lobster tail because I'm paying for it. You get chicken, lol. That's fucked up, I know, and I can be kinda cheap.......but it's how I feel. Next time, his ass is going to IHop.

You'd like taking me to dinner. If someone is treating me, I am mindful of the price of my meal. I don't order a hamburger but I don't like to spend other prople's money. That is unless my host insists on me having prime rib .

Neither do I which is why I at least try to keep it as close to $10 as possible.

I certainly agree with Nystyle709. I hate it when so called friends take advantage of me. When someone else is paying the tab, I hang back to see what they order before placing my order. At any rate, I like the cheap foods so it's never a problem.

Did you ever notice that cola drinks are extremely high priced in restaurants? Must be a major profit item for them so I order ice water instead.

That's why whenever I treat, I ask them what they're ordering before the waiter comes over with their pad. If it's over a certain dollar amount....nope. Something else.

^^^ I actually did nip that shit in the bud when he had the nerve to order another drink. The waitress comes back and he flags her down like...."yeah, let me get a Mai Tai please". I looked at him and said "you ain't getting no motherfucking Mai Tai. You already had two drinks". Then I told her to bring me another glass of sake.

That's just rude. When someone else is paying, you're supposed to be mindful of costs. At least that's the way I always approach it when someone else is picking up the tab. When I treat, and don't have a lot of money to play with, I'll let them know that this is a budgeted excursion.

I'm the best when it comes to dinner dates. All I get is a slice of cake. AND... I don't drink. $3.50 and I'm good to go!

Keeping it on the real tip, I don't think anyone should offer to treat then complain about it later.

I think if you make the offer, you should be prepared to pay for whatever is ordered.

Yeah, but not if there were 'provisions' made beforehand. If I say "yeah, it's my treat get whatever you want", then okay. I've done it before. But if say "I'm treating but I didn't get paid this week so be mindful", then I think you should at least be mindful. It just looks crazy for you get the most expensive thing there is when I told you that I don't have it like that right now. Granted, I can pay for it but that's not the point. I offered to take him out because yes, he takes me out and he does return the favor and we treat each other all the time. But I was just a little annoyed this time because like I said, I told him I didn't get paid. And I was being cheap.

I agree that it was very rude on your friend's part. I don't order alcohol with any meal, no matter who is paying, but I think it takes balls to order more than one alcoholic beverage (way over priced in restaurants) on someone else's dime.

The worst thing I ever saw on this topic was when two friends had to move fast when one of them was called to go to Iraq and her girlfriend decided to move home. Everything went so fast that I offered for us to clean their apartment for them so they could have it done fast, and our mutual friend offered to help me.

When she got back from Iraq, and her girlfriend came to this city to visit, they wanted to take us out to dinner to thank us. They went during the day and I couldn't go, so they took me out a couple days later and the friend who helped me clean, went that time too...she asked if her meal was being paid for again and they said sure. Totally ballsy....then she asked to order a dessert to bring home! I was embarrassed for her. How tacky.

^^I guess people are just wired differently. I couldn't bring myself to do that. Wouldn't even cross my mind.

Some people just love spending other peoples money. They think it's a lottery jackpot.
