Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
Nope! (I've disagreed with the false claims people SAY about where my religion stands on an issue. ) Why would I? If I believe the religion to be God's religion, why would I disagree with it? And if I didn't believe the religion was God's, then why am I there? Just for the fellowship? lol

Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
Yes. And anyone who has NEVER questioned their faith or took a step back to examine their belief system is dangerous, naive, ignorant and probably conflicted as well. This is especially true for folks who were indoctrinated/brainwashed into a religion instead of discovering it themselves. "God" (whomever an individual holds that to be) gave us a brain to use along with free will. If you've never questioned your belief system, then what's the point of having it to begin with? Furthermore, because we are human beings that each have a different perspective on life, it is unrealistic to expect that our limited experience and ideals would completely fall in line with the religious teachings of millions of others, ALL THE TIME! It's completely disingenuous. Faith is often strengthened among those who have openly questioned it before ala Mother Theresa!Chris wrote:Have you ever disagreed with your religions stance on a certain issue?

Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
I've questioned things all the time. But the question of this thread was about disagreeing. Disagreeing is a verdict; an answer questioning. You've questioned and you've decided on an answer. I've questioned. And you're right, my faith has been stronger as a result. Questioning is natural. I questioned my religion, but moreso, I question people who question. In order to question my religion, I need to question everything else too. And I did. So no, my questioning didn't lead me to disagreement with my religion. Because I realize that if I disagreed with my religion, than I really didn't believe and was just wasting my time. Eternity's too long to settle.

As someone who no longer has any "religious" beliefs, I will excuse myself from the conversation.

Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
Yes, and I eventually left religion because of it. I really, really tried to overcome my initial discomfort and believe what I was supposed to believe, but I just couldn't do it.
I think that if I were to have faith in religion again, I'd have to start my own.

Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
Lets see my moms side are heavily catholic italian and my dads side is heavy muslim arab. I definitely disagree with boths stances over a FEW issues! Its' why I'm not practicing any kind of religion.

Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
I don't have a problem with "religion" so much as "organized religion". As in, the people who find it necessary to shove their beliefs down other peoples throats, inject their beliefs into politics and infect secular government with religious "ideals". In other words I have a problem with evangelicals! A lot of people might find it hard to believe that I actually consider myself to be a spiritual person.

This post is how I feel too. Now I'm a strong believer in the evolution story. Yes, my ancestors were Miocene apes that found the courage to leave the trees and walk upon the land and eventually walked out of Africa to populate the world. This is now my bible: JOURNEY OF MANKIND

Re: Disagreeing with your religion.
I disagree with religion.
» Would you consider a religion that tells you to only associate with people of the same religion to be cult-like?
» Which religion, if any, were you brought up with as a child? Are you still practicing this religion now?
» Do we need religion today?
» Marrying someone of a different religion.
» Are you sensitive about your religion?
