People make deals with the devil all the time. It's just not done in as dramatic a fashion as it is in fiction.

The devil or Satan is a mythological character, same as Hades. (just as Jehova is modelled on Zeus).
So, it is just fiction and kinda dated. It would be more appropriate in this century to say someone went to the Dark Side of The Force.

If there is a Satan, I wouldn't think he'd be the type to be bargained with. One could let him in and have a command over their soul, but offering it to him in exchange of his allowing you to win the big game or getting that promotion is pure fiction.

I agree. THOSE kinds of deals with the devil are fiction. The real deals with the devil are considerably more subtle.
And usually the devil doesn't advertise himself as the devil.

The devil exploits peoples weaknesses and jadedness, but I don't think he makes deals. If, in exchange for something gluttonous, someone is willing to offer him their soul, then IMO he already has it and doesn't need to fulfill any obligations at that point.

That's the dirty little secret.
Of course, in real life, he dangles stuff in front of your face so you bite. He's a good campaigner. Reminds me of that old little fable about the guy who gets to spend a day in both heaven and hell and gets to choose which one he stays in.
