NEW YORK (Reuters) - Several New York City council members unveiled a
bid on Tuesday to ban toy giveaways in fast-food restaurant meals for
children, emulating a San Francisco city law that will be enforced
later this year.

City Council Deputy Majority Leader Leroy Comrie, who plans to
introduce the bill on Wednesday, said banning toy giveaways would
reduce the allure of fast-food restaurants for children and encourage
the industry to provide healthier options.

It may be "idiocy in progress" if they expect this move alone to solve childhood obesity but they don't.

Quote :
"While I recognise that ensuring children have access to, and eat more, nutritious meals is ultimately the responsibility of their caretakers, the City Council can empower parents by making it harder for the fast food industry to target children with predatory marketing techniques," he (City Council Deputy Majority Leader Leroy Comrie) said in a statement.

Quote :
The $184 billion fast-food industry has recently won some praise for allowing parents to get milk and apples instead of soda and French fries in kids' meals.

So give the kids toys when they order apples instead of french fries. I'll save my outrage for when the government says I can't feed my kid a Happy Meal at all, instead of not let them have a piece of plastic shit.

Are they serious? I'd wager to guess that the allure of fast food is the fast food. The toy is extra.

Indeeeeed, does anyone recall a while back when they announced Cap'n Crunch cereal is no longer going to be marketed towards kids in hopes THAT will bring down the obesity rate because it has more sugar in a cup than other cereals? How stupid are people?
