What do you prefer, carpet or hardwood floors.

When I moved into my house, it was carpeted; I've since had it all pulled up. I like hard floors better.

I recently re-finished all the floors with carpet and put wood laminate in the dining room As nice as it looks its a real pain to take care of. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to keep the wood shiny without streaks??? I have used so many products including white vinegar and it still looks streaky to me.

Our apartment has hardwood floors (which I prefer) but we're required to carpet at least 75%. It's just being a good neighbor to the lady downstairs.

In my apartment, there is only carpet in my bedroom. The rest of the place is hardwood. Carpet is easier to keep clean but the hardwood looks better. I'll take the carpet though. Easier to keep clean although ironically enough, I don't like to vaccuum.

I use wood soap. Works great and I make sure I take a towel and completely dry off the floor. I don't let water or any substance dry on the floor on its own. I literally wax my floor every time I clean it. Also, I have a rug right by the door and when you come in so you take your shoes off before you walk on the floor.

I have had many houses with many different circumstances. Most of been them being that houses were totally carpeted. I even had a house that had carpet in the kitchen. That was a disaster. I have learned with animals and children, hardwood floors is the way to go. You can always lay down a rug somewhere if you want a little carpet. We did live in one military housing that is was total concrete floors. Like what you would find in the hallways of schools or hospitals. Now that was a bit much. It was always cold and scratched/scuffed very easy. Now that they have invented the steam mop, I prefer to mop than to vaccuum.

I guess thats good for a wood floor but not for wood laminate thats what I have. They recommend White Vinegar and water and I have tried that and it still looks streaky LOL!! It does glow though and it looks really shiny. I don't let it dry either I wipe it up right away.

Carpet is only nice the first year. You can best believe that stains and spots await.

Lived in a place once that had light beige carpet in every room except the kitchen. Hated it. It was impossible to keep clean.

I think that would only happen if you have kids or you let people walk over the carpet or you constantly spill something on the floor. The carpet in my bedroom still looks brand new from when I first moved into the place and I've been here 4 yrs now. People have to take their shoes off before coming into my room. Hell, before coming into the house.
