I just got this on DVD and found it to be a VERY good version of Alice in Wonderland...in fact I find that the 1951 Disney version copied from this one quite a bit, which is funny because Walt Disney and Mary Pickford planned to do this originally but Paramount pictures beat them to it.
Paramount made the movie and with a star studded cast including Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, and W.C. Fields, to save the studio from bankruptcy, but it flopped because despite the stars, the audience couldn't recognize them in their costumes. And it's really odd that they made this movie to save the company because the sets, the costumes, the effects, all very elaborate and expensive looking. It may have flopped during its initial run but I found it very enjoyable and easily a new favorite of mine. Has anyone else seen it?
