There is an old saying people that don't like cat's can't be trusted. I once thought about this and thought about people I knew that didn't like cats and I came up with 7 out of 10 that could not be trusted! Makes you wonder.
Some people don't like cats because of allergy reasons and some don't like them because they are afraid of them. 2 of my sisters are afraid of cats, they think they are going to claw them up if they come near them LOL. Cats are so sweet and a lot smarter than people give credit. There is a ferel cat that comes in my yard every day and I have been feeding her for 3 years now but she won't let me touch her. I can get close but the minute I try to reach out, she backs off.

As I've stated before, we have cats because we like pets and they're easier in an apartment but I love dogs too. My guess is that people who "hate" cats perceive them as aloof, cruel, unaffectionate, independent, etc. And this is true of some. One of my wife's brother's family has a cat that I can't stand. All the cats we've ever had have been great. Never met a lap they didn't love to curl up in. All were rescued as kittens and I guess we just train them right from the start.

I can understand being afraid of animals or not liking to be around them because of allergies, but I cannot understand people who hate any sort of animal. Like, the ones who would go out of their way to run them down on the street. Sign of a sick mind, IMO.
I don't know of anyone who hates cats or dogs. I wouldn't remain in association with them if I did.
Cats who are aloof and unaffectionate have had poor upbringing around people. Feral cats will never be completely at ease around people. Cats who are socialized with GOOD people as youngsters turn out to be awesome companions. My cats aren't needy the way dogs are, but they still do beg for attention. The two males especially are offended by my need to focus on textbooks and calculations rather than on them....they plop down on my papers and books when I'm trying to study.

My father is a full fledged cat hater, we have a cat, he is never going to let her in the house, so we bring her in when he's not here

My dad used to shoot feral cats. But that wasn't entirely hate - he hunted rabbits and the cats were competition for the same prey. It's a hunter thing.

Cats are like a combination of women and your idiosyncratic cousin. People just have to appreciate THAT about about them; their mystery (feeling their presence, even if you don't quite know where they are) and fickle affection/independence (having a rapport with you on their own terms…popping up on a whim.) If you want unconditional love and adherence, dogs are more for you.

I like fat cats. I think they're cute. But I'm neither I cat lover or hater. I'm not an animal lover like that. Sure, I'll pet and coo over cute dogs or whatever....but I'm not pressed enough to keep them as pets. I think most people dislike cats because they aren't as affectionate. You have to work/earn their affection. In a way, I can appreciate that aspect about them.
