All over the news tonight that Osama bin Laden was killed!

It was a long journey but I finally got him!

It only took 10 yrs. to finally do this degenerate in. I hope he has a place on the pit next to Saddam.

Here's to hoping it's true, but of course the next question's going to be how is Al-Queda going to retaliate?

I hope no one is naive enough to think it's over. He has successors.

I kept waiting to read that the news was a hoax. The eport I read said he was shot in the head. I wonder who had the honor?

What I read in his statement was that this operation was going on for years before he was president. All I read was "we".

Well good, if this is true. I ain't gonna accuse him of taking undue credit unless he does. I'm fair. This is the military's job and I think they should get the credit. I'm glad we finally got the guy but I do realize too many will think it was over.

If anybody's gonna try and take credit for it its gonna be Dubya. I can hear that goofy accent now talking about how "we worked tirelessly fer years to bring down Saddam and Osama and finally we did. . ."

I am not afraid of Osama bin Laden alive or dead. I feel no safer regardless of his status. America lost this war a long time ago, and I've accepted it, even if the country as a whole can't and still needs a trophy to feel like we have. The pursuit of this man has cost billions upon billions in global currencies, not to mention an alarming number of lives. I don't think the ends have justified the means.

My thoughts exactly SN, how are they going to retaliate. Living here in NY, capital target city for Al-Queda is a bit scary but life does have to go on and we hope nothing happens.

I don't see how it's a slam dunk at all. He'd have to politicize it and that would make him look bad. Besides, America has a short memory. Come a year's time when gas prices are higher still, food prices are higher, jobs are still scarce, and we're STILL at war(you know people will expect this to all be over now regardless of whether it is or not), and I think Obama still will have to fight for a second term. I hardly think it's a slam dunk unless the GOP nominates another old guy. People have been saying a second term is a slam dunk before anyway. I think it's just comfort talk to convince themselves. Whenever anybody assumes it's a slam dunk so early in the game, they're typically in for a rude awakening.

Besides, Obama's speech was no more eloquent than anything anybody else would've said.

According to the report, the president was wary of attacking the location with two B-2 stealth bombers out of concern that it would reduce the building (and all evidence inside) to rubble. The potential for collateral damage -- 22 people were inside the compound, including women and children -- was also a deterrent, ABC reported.

An administration source did not refute that such an operation was conceived and scrapped. Politico's Mike Allen also reported on Monday that the “original plan for the raid was to bomb the house, but President Obama ultimately decided against that.”

The official did, however, push back against the notion (which could be inferred from either piece) that the president had a chance to kill bin Laden and didn't pull the trigger.

“It’s wrong to say it was delayed because of a decision by Obama,” the official said. “They were constantly revising the intelligence and military planning until it was finally ready.”

In addition to being potentially destructive of both evidence and civilian life, attacking the compound with B-2 stealth bombers was also determined to be operationally risky. The president and his team, instead, asked that the plan be revised to allow for a Navy SEALs unit to be transported in via helicopter. Training for that took time. The Navy SEALs unit “replicated the one-acre compound at Camp Alpha, a segregated section of Bagram Air Base. Trial runs were held in early April,” Marc Ambinder of the National Journal reported.

There will be retaliation. People need to be aware as much as possible, not to a point of paranoia but definitely aware of their surroundings & not be afraid to report things.

There's always gonna be retaliation. They've hated us before and they hate us now. Kind of why I'm most worried about this happening now.
