Actual Puritanical beliefs? Nah. But much of the stuff still labeled as Puritanical isn't. It's just an attempt to stigmatize something by attaching it to a group with negative connotations.

a person who adheres to strict moral or religious principles, esp one opposed to luxury and sensual enjoyment
A useful purpose from a secular point of view? Perhaps to those who want to live their lives that way (they believe it gets them into heaven.) No one is forcing them to live their lives any other way.
By the historical definition of "a religious reform movement in the late 16th and 17th centuries that sought to “purify” the Church of England of remnants of the Roman Catholic “popery” that the Puritans claimed had been retained after the religious settlement reached early in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I"? I could not care less. (Notice how I didn't write "I could care less"?

It can have a place for whoever is 'puritanical'. People need to find a balance. Live your life the way that you way to. Do know that it's ONLY your life.
