I would say long story short but that's not happening...I have not been thin since I was about 12 years old, a large part of that is because I spent a lot of years lifting weights and now I have an especially murderous time finding shorts that are big enough for my legs...then there's the other side of I have an obvious gut on account of I also eat too much, and especially too much junk, so I guess it's all balanced out, fat here, muscle here, etc. but I digress, most people don't say anything about my size, I don't think I look what I weigh anyway, but today, I'm in the thrift shop looking for a swimsuit for my much smaller mother, the woman at the register asks what size I'm looking for, 'A 2X?', and when I replied a medium, her response was 'oh, for someone else'.

That was a new one on me, and I told my mother about it when I got home and she just went into her face, and said 'I'd never do that, you don't try to guess people's sizes', which by the way is also wrong because in the s/m/l range of swimsuits, I'm only an Xl, 16 tall in layman terms. But I just can't believe anybody would be so stupid to openly say that, suppose I was not as nice (ha ha) a person as I am and took a real offense to that remark? Then the whole store would be in trouble where I was concerned.

Anybody else got any thoughts on this one?

It was extremely rude & she wouldn't wouldn't have gotten off so easy with me. She's lucky you're nice.

Maybe it will make you feel better to know that I had something kind of similar happen to me. In our city, there was a hair stylist convention every year in September. I would go there to be a hair model because though I am not a knock out by any stretch of the imagination, my naturally curly hair made me a good candidate for being a hair model for the Sunday show they would do. Well, the last show I was scheduled to do was the weekend after the 9/11 attacks, and it was cancelled. So, they never got it back to the area after that. Three years ago, they did come back. I went to the interview and got selected and all the details were worked out when this bitch of a woman pulled me aside and said, "I just thought I should let you know that you will have to wear a dress on Sunday, and I wasn't sure you could pull that off." I wore an 8/10 dress size so what the fuck was her deal? It hurt me so bad, and I cried all the way to my car and did not return. It was just such an unfair, cruel insult to me. If she wanted a size three, she should not have even had me go through the friggin' interview.

So, Super, I am so very sorry you went through that. Screw that bitch who made you mad.

Indeeeeeeeed, and that's a bit funny (not ha ha funny but) because I've got the naturally curly hair too that everybody's always been so envious of, but where I was concerned, they could have it because it caused me plenty of trouble for most of my life.

Super, isn't it funny how everyone LOVES the naturally curly hair but it is not that fun really. I am the same way. Though, now that I am in my 30's, I do appreciate it a lot more.

Yep, my mother always told me people want what they don't have, she has straight hair, wanted curly like mine, I wanted straight hair...now since I got mine all cut off it's not so much curly as just wavy and it's manageable now so I can deal with it, but when it was long it was just MURDER, especially in the summertime.

That was very rude. If I were you, I would have made a note of her name and called the manager to complain about the bad service from this cashier.

And the real kick of it all is this woman's fatter than I am, so if that ain't the big FAT pot calling the kettle black.

If you ever wear your hair long again, the trick is to comb it in the shower with the conditioner in it.

In school, I never had anyone to teach me how to do it. So, it was so much less than it could have been. Then after high school, and I figured it all out, I wanted my hair to be just like Melina Kanakaredes.



And it did. And I only tolerated it for a year. I hated the maintenance.

I hated ALL the maintenance associated with my long hair, it took almost an hour to brush every day, had to be redone every time it got messed up, I wore it in braids every day so it was tied back, it was cooler and it would be good for most of the day, it took forever to wash it, it would take days to dry. Getting it all cut off was very liberating because now I just brush over it once and I'm good for the day, or if it's right after I cut it and it's very short I don't even have to brush it, it just stays put.

If I let mine get long, it looks so much better when I do it. But I have a tendancy to just put it up. So shoulder length keeps me from going "frumpy mom".

That's funny because my mother has long hair, and now that it's warm she's constantly putting it up, and she's still considering getting it cut which she never does because she hates short hair.

Both of those two ladies were really rude and out of line. You NEVER guess someone's size or age and if you want models with no waste, you ask for undernourished, underweight models. I find most people who are models look unhealthy and far too underweight. I had one guy try and guess my age and he put me as 10 years older than I am, then tried to pass it off by saying he was usually really good at guess ages. Most people say I don't look my age, though there are days I fell I do, but to put me in my early 40's is pushing it far too much. I should have recommended the guy get his eyes checked.

Now you see folks. Asking "How stupid can you get?" is a dangerous question. You may find out.
