Do you have memorized all the big words you type/write out or do you sometimes need to consult the spell checker or a dictionary?

Spelling was one of my best classes in school but there are still plenty of times I have trouble knowing from memory if something needs an e or an i or which comes before and after the l and stuff like that.

I'm a poor speller. It's something I should work on.

I can probably spell more words correctly than the average English speaker, but basically the language is illogical so what's the point.

Spelling is obsolete. Notice ur spell check now accepts 'thru' instead of the overly long and nonsensical 'through'

I am an advocate for fonetic spelling and modernizing the language. How do you get 'kof' out of 'cough?' Why then isn't 'through' 'throf?'

I am not the first critic of the English Language. George Bernard Shaw proved that 'ghoti' spells 'fish' in English.

    gh from cough
    o from women
ti from fiction. Spells fish. big grin

That is one of the most frustrating things especially when the number one rule of pronunciation is to "sound it out".

I am not an English speaker, but I think I have good ears. My spellings are mostly correct.

One thing I'll give English over some of the other languages is gender. In English it's "the man", "the woman", "the boat". In German, for example, you have to learn that it's "der Mann ", "die Frau", and "das Boot". The nouns have genders that are reflected in the definite article "the". And Latin? Fuggedaboutit!

For what I usually write, I am. There is one word that, for whatever reason, I cannot ever spell right, and that word is Conscious. I always try to spell it 'concious.'

    Mismo en Espaňol

El Toro, La Vaca, Las Mujeres, Los Hombres

I do a lot of editing of memos from Russians and they don't seem to use 'the' or 'a' like we do. Remember Rocky & Bullwinkle when Boris would say "Moose and Squirrel?" Well, that's actually what a Russky would say, not the moose or a squirrel.

BTW, to a lesser degree, when editing for a German co-worker, I noticed she wasn't too particular about using 'the,' tho dats part of the German language structure.

I'm an excellent speller. I don't use spell check that often....and if you do happen to see me misspell or omit words on here.....it's because I type pretty fast and just hit send. I don't bother going back and correcting it.

Same here. I type very fast and don't always proof-read before hitting 'send.'
