| The 'common wisdom' I have heard most of my life is that regular water is more healthy than other beverages. There is almost an assumption that water will help remove toxins from your body and help your body function well, which I don't get because why wouldn't any liquid have that effect? Why would water be different from Hi-C?
Does it really make a difference what you drink as long as you are hydrated? Does water have any properties that makes it a superior beverage for health reasons?

I think (depending on the purity of the water) it is better because it is inert. It does not add calories, sugar or chemicals from artificial flavorings.
However, some water is better. Rainwater or distilled water lacks a lot of nutrient minerals so it would not be better than some other mostly water drinks.
I don't drink juices or soda very often and my hydration drink of choice is just cold water. But if I have been sweating I make sure to replace salt with the water. So, Gatorade is probably better in that instance than just water.

| I always thought the superiority of water was that it is free of calories, sugar, anything artificial, and carbonation. | |

Most communities do add fluoride to the water supply. Some have too high a level, putting children at risk for fluorosis (staining) on permanent teeth. It is actually very important for parents to know the level in their area.

| I always thought water was supposedly better for you because it's 'pure,' and doesn't contain the sodium, starches, carbohydrates, artificial coloring, etc., etc. that most other beverages do. | |

| The water in my area sometimes smells like Chlorox. I don't usually drink it, I buy bottled water. Something interesting maybe about bottled water, every single person I know that drinks bottled water has had kidney stones, myself included. | |

| That's so interesting about the kidney stones, Tony. I wonder if there is a correlation? All three of us drink a lot of bottled water. | |

I thought about it one day all the people I knew that suffered kidney stones did drink bottled water. I even talked to them about it and now they were wondering if there was a connection between the bottled water and the stones.

| We have a reverse osmosis system for our drinking water, so I don't know what good it does but we've been drinking that instead of the tap for over 10 years and we wouldn't go back to the tap, we don't even give our dogs water from there. | |

| I prefer water or seltzer. I fill up a 27oz canteen from a water filter pitcher and add a packet of Emergen C and take it for lunch. At home I have 1l bottles of seltzer in the frig. | |

| Water has no calories, so essentially, it's healthier. Now I know people have certain issues with their tap water in their areas.....fortunately for me, my tap water great. I don't taste any lead, chlorine or anything else. The best tasting water I've had came from a spring creek when I was living down south. People would line up with their jugs to get it. | |

| Water's my drink of choice, though I still enjoy coffee, tea, iced tea, and so forth. I don't mind Fluoride being added. It helps your teeth.
Water is still the best thing for you to drink. I use a Britta filter but will also drink tap water.
