Do you like the idea of the 'nuclear family,' with 2.5 kids, a dog, a home in the suburbs, with the breadwinner husband/father going to work and the homemaker wife/mother?

Re: Are you a traditionalist?
I am NOT a traditionalist. I don't find these ideas tied to traditionalism at all. I think a home in the burbs sounds nice. But I can do without the dog. And 2.5 kids is dayum small. (Nothing traditional about that either.) And yeah, I think at least one parent should be raising the kids rather than a daycare provider/bunch of know-it-all school officials. I hardly think that makes me a traditionalist. I think it just makes me pragmatic in pursuing what I want.

Nope and I hope to one day get the heck out of suburbia and find a home in the wild where I can run around naked anytime I want.

Re: Are you a traditionalist?
I believe in the idea of a parent staying more at home to help raise the kids. That can be the father or the mother. Some couples like my bosses started their own company schedule things and arrange appointments to make sure the kids are not alone at home.
In that sense I still believe the parent being the best option of raising a child than a day care or a neighborgh.
The parents brought the kids to this world and I do not see why the have them if they plan for others to raise them. In my opinion many parents by actions their own goals and ambitions are higher priority than the kids with does not match when they claim it is the other way around.
You have a great day.

Nix the dog and the homemaker/mother. I will be working too. And I don't have to live in the 'burbs. So nah, I guess I'm not a typical traditionalist.

Different things work for different families, so I say if this equation works for some families, then go for it. But to answer the question, I would say no, that equation wouldn't work for me. I could do without the kids. I honestly don't think I'd mind being a homemaker, but that means I would have to ask my husband for money. That ain't going to work for me, Honey, so unfortunately, as much as I hate working, I'd have a job too. Plus, it's not really realistic in this day and age that one parent can stay home - most families need two incomes.
