| Let me play the devil's advocate here.
So he does not like blacks. Does that mean he will act on his feeling or views? Not necessarily.
I am of hispanic decent. If he had said he does not like Mexicans I do not care and would not get offended. That is his opinion AS LONG as he does not interfere with my rights as an American and as a human.
His mistake was to express his honest views in a time when being honest about those issues is not accepted because it is offensive.
I have one example of experienced along time ago, around 1980.
I was stationed in Fort Hood. One day I went to my Section Sergeant's home. The conversation developed to race. He flat out told me he does not accept blacks and if his daughter married a black guy he would disown her. He would not try to stop her, just diown her. He believed the Bible approved of keeping the races separated.
Well, later the Company First Sergeant who was outspoken about blacks wanted to bust our two blacks in the section. My Section Supervisor stormed to the First Sergeant's office and they had a screaming contest to the point that the Section Sergeant had to get taken out of the office by force. The First Sergeant backed off on busting the two black Soldiers. I respected that Section Sergeant for being fair despite his own views on blacks. To me there are others out there that may believe in certain ways but do not allow their beliefs trumple on others rights.
You have a great day. Friendly Veteran

No, his mistake was expressing his honest views that he is a racist, which everyone on that panel expressed their views that he was wrong and which we so far all agree.
It is wrong to judge someone solely because of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or even national origin. Most of those criteria are protected by law in the U.S.
So, his views are not only offensive, but would have been illegal if there were any consequences resulting from his pre-judgment. But it was a frivolous a TV show and the only consequences were to him being roundly criticized for his overt racism.

But it was a frivolous a TV show and the only consequences were to him being roundly criticized for his overt racism. So it was wrong to express his racist views? In other words it is not OK to express views even if they offend, correct? Because a panel does not agree in him expressing his racist views does not make him wrong to speak up his views, stupid yes I will agree. My point is that to say it is wrong to express your views however offensive they may be does not go along with the spirit of the Constitution regarding free speech. To judge someone based on the criteria you mention is not protected by the U.S. What is protected is the rights of every citizen regarding how we act towards each other, not how we judge others. I agree if his views result in illegal consequences towards others. I said that in my previous statement. The consequences to him on the TV show were just as correct as he expressed his views. He got a mouthful and that is OK. They expressed his views just as he did. You have a great day. Friendly Veteran

No, I did not say censor him - make that clear. I said his views are wrong. Fascists and racists will disagree with me and say I am wrong on that point but again - they are wrong. Sometimes you just have to be adamant about right and wrong.
To make it clear again he is free to express his erroneous views and look the ignorant fool that he is and the others on the panel were free to point out his ignorant foolishness.

I never quoted you as saying censor. I simply am saying that expressing views is not wrong. The views themselves may be wrong but I have no problem anyone expressing his views however offensive they may be. I was told by someone that he disliked Mexican. I said I have not problem what he think about us of Mexican decent as long as he does not infringe in my rights. We still got along well at work and I had no problem with him around me. I did not get bent out of shape because he dislike Mexicans as the guy did in the panel but that is me. You have a great day. Friendly Veteran

| Everyone is entitled to be stupid but if you open your mouth and say it then they're just as entitled to be slammed for it. I wish that panel wouldve went in harder on the guy. He still woulda been a racist dick but at least he would have been demonized for it and he woulda deserved it. | |
