To answer the question:
I have shaved my head twice before (once was because, if you can believe it, I was too broke to pay for a haircut.)

I was bald about a year and a half ago, but I lost all my hair to chemo, not the razor. --I'm just glad it grows back!! LOL

Did you consider shaving it when it started falling out?
I worked on an oncology unit and this one woman had long black hair -and I remember seeing the trail of it on the floor from her bed to the bathroom. Also, it looked so bad with patches of hair & bald spots I wondered why she didn't just take it off. We had barber clippers on the unit.
Interesting cultural notice, the black women with bald heads looked so much more natural than the white women - we are used to seeing those in some African tribal customs.

No, I was a defiant die-hard and refused to shave it. I let it fall out, but interestingly, I had a few strands that stayed in, along with the hair on my arms, eyebrows and eyelashes. Most of it came out in clumps in the shower, and one thing I remember clearly is that when going into Boston for chemo, the wind was blowing pretty briskly, one day, and I could literally feel and see my hair blowing off my head in the breeze!
That was sort of a weird feeling, but I said hey, the birds will pick it up and make a nice warm nest out of it! I've been taking photos of myself at regular intervals from peach-fuzz bald up to now, so someday I can go back and look at the progression, and it's a little unnerving to see those early shots. I thought about posting one here, but I don't know if I'm brave enough!

Nope - and I don't thing I would. I'm actually growing my hair out longer now.
