    Hi all,

    Whenever I get a shot or a blood test or an IV or whatever, which is rare, I can't ever look at the needle going into my skin. I always close my eyes and turn my head away until it's completely over.

    Can you look?

    I never got any like that, the only shots I get are Novacaine when I'm at the dentist.

    I try not to look when they are sticking that big needle into a vein for blood donation - seeing it makes you anticipate and feel it even more. They are sometimes uncomfortable.

    When I went to the dermatologist on Thursday, I watched as they stuck the anaesthesia needle into me and then when it was quite deadened, I watched the doctor cut pieces of my skin away with a scalpel, cauterize it with an electric needle and sew it up with a little curved needle. Quite fascinating, seeing my subcutaneous fat.

    I usually look away so that when the pinch comes, I'm not seeing it happen. It's been a minute since I last got a shot though.

    I need to look and see it happening to pace myself. If I get a shot and look away, I may wind up making a jerking movement.

    I tend to glance away as the needle is puncturing my skin, but it's not essential that I do. I can stand to see what's happening.

    I always watch--having drawn thousands of people over the years for blood samples at work, I have an insatiable need to critique the technique of the person giving me a needle when I'm in that reverse-position.

    I can look, I usually do, even during a blood test I watch the blood go into the little tube.
