What do you consider morbid? Empty What do you consider morbid?

Post by Supernova Wed Jun 08, 2011 1:52 pm

So this morning I'm watching the Casey Anthony trial on TV and my mother comes in and says 'WHAT are you watching? Something morbid', and this is when the prosecutor is asking a computer technician about hardware drives. But apparently anything that isn't happy is morbid or depressing where she's concerned, which is very funny because she watches the Hoarders show, all the TLC specials, and she watched Oz, and that's somehow okay but the Twilight Zone, and My Girl, these are depressing and why do you watch them? And here, this is a trial, this is not a sob story movie of the week, this is real, I want to know what's going on but apparently that cannot be done with her around because she can't have anything 'morbid'.

It's a very funny thing about morbidity, you look up the definition for morbid and it doesn't even have anything to do with death, morbid has to do with disease, so by that logic a hospital would be morbid but a cemetery or funeral home wouldn't because not everybody in it got there from a disease but hospitals are full of diseases.

The Casey Anthony trial is sizzlingly fascinating. I never forget that little girl, how cute she was, it comes out even in just photos and video. It is sad but the legal trial, and the personalities involved are gripping.

What I hate, hate, hate, are people (and if any are here, I do not apologize!) who think it is the best, greatest, funniest thing, to watch a snake eat a mouse.

Yes, to delight in another creature's pain and suffering is a morbid fascination.

I disagree. I think a fascination with another creature's pain, etc. is morbid. I think taking "delight" is sadistic. This is morbid. But it's funny

I would consider anything ominous in nature that can lead to extreme despair, illness or death to be 'morbid.'

I don't think cemeteries, the idea of them, are morbid. Death is a part of life and the treatment of the remains is something that has to be done, and cemeteries are necessary, especially in some religions.

I don't like movies that deal with nothing but violent death, dismemberment and terror of same.
