I do, but the food supply isn't safe enough for ground beef anymore. E Coli is nothing to mess with.

Yep! When I was a teen in the '60s, my weightlifting, body-building buddy used to eat raw hamburger with egg. Double jeopardy!

I can tolerate a slightly (but just slightly) rare steak, but prefer my burgers thoroughly cooked.

I like the juiciness that comes with a medium rare burgers and steaks, but only trust the finest of restaurants to prepare it right. Most of the time I opt for done.

Would you mind defining "slightly rare"...?

Slightly....medium....moderate....on the fence....casually aloof....hell, I don't care what the methodical terminology is. The bottom line, which was obvious, was that I may allow wiggle room for my steaks to be 'slightly' underdone, but prefer my burgers thoroughly cooked. The end.

Um...maybe obvious to YOU, but for people like ME, who have spent years trying to decipher such babble in the restaurant industry, there is no such thing as "slightly rare," which is why I asked what you meant. Rare is barely cooked. Saying "slightly rare" is like saying "slightly pregnant." It either is, or it isn't.
It simply seemed very odd (to me) for someone to like a rare steak but a well-done burger. Opposite extremes, and all...

It sounds like he's talking about medium well on that steak. Slightly underdone, not slightly cooked. Just a little pink if I'm reading it right.
