It tends to be the area schools are most willing to cut to conserve money. Do you think music education is important (vital) in school?

No, I really don't. It's a limited use subject. I'm all for art appreciation but as subjects go, it's largely filler.

Its VERY important. Kids exposed to music education in schools also excel in math & science.

I don't think it's "vital", but it is important. All schools should have a music/arts program.

I think it is very important. But the reality is, cuts have to be made, and I would rather see music and art classes cut before other things. I think school districts need to find balance when making cuts, though. Two years ago, (right before 5th for my son, the year he was able to take band) they cut elementary band something fierce. They met with a teacher two times per month. Then in jr. high, he had band two days a week one week, three days the next week. I understand putting more money toward the kids who liked it enough to continue in jr. high, but at the same time, I suspect that a lot of kids don't have enough instructed practice time to fall in love with an instrument when they are only meeting the teacher twice per month.

I think it's important but that isn't going to keep it from being cut in a budget crunch.
