Is a bad restaurant review from a friend enough to keep you away from the place for good?

Depends on the friend and WHAT exactly they say. I try to think for myself but it'd have to really depend on a lot.

I feel the same. If someone has an issue with management or service, I will probably see for myself. But if it is a food quality issue, I am much more inclined to stay away.

Problem with going with friend's words is that a lot of them have different tastes than me. So they'd probably need to tell me something really bad to get me to steer clear of a restaurant. (Or just tell me that all the entree are more than 20 bucks. That'll do it.)

If it is a place I hadn't been interested in, a bad review from a friend would probably keep me away. If I had been curious about it, then I'd heed their warning but still check the place out cautiously.

Not quite. It depends who it is and what was said. I like to try things out for myself.

As's been said, it would depend on the reason for the bad review. My wife and I have eaten at restaurant that I was very pleased with my meal but she wasn't keen on her's. A third party is going to get a different opinion from each of us. Now if the friend told me a cockroach scampered across their table or they found a finger in their entree...I'll steer clear.

My sisters are the authority and critics when it comes to restaurants, hospitals, and doctors. I have been to restaurants that they said to stay away from and I actually enjoyed the food. I go by my own opinion.

Depends on the place. The review would have to be super bad for me to stop going somewhere I already liked. Like if i heard there were bugs or something. Otherwise probably not. If I never heard of it or wasn't looking to eat there then bad word of mouth from somebody i know will bias me.

It depends on what they say and why they don't like the restaurant.

If they just casually commented on how lackluster the place was, then I would probably still check it out if I was interested....but if they were emphatic that I not eat there because they saw a roach on the table, or some kind of trifling BS then I would listen.

Re: Is a bad restaurant review from a friend enough to keep you away from the place for good?
It depends on what the complaint is about. Service could be someone just having a bad day or even a matter of opinion. The food is my main concern. I would warn someone if there were significant issues as well as heed the warning from someone else. I hate paying for food that ends up not being eaten or enjoyed. One of the places I usually go to is starting to suck. Lowered quality, quantity & higher prices. I'm warning people I know about it & would want them to do the same. Eating out in this economy is more of a luxury than before.
