Movies that haven't aged well
LOL, I recently recorded three horror movies on TCM that I thought were pretty good/scary when I was a kid. Attack of the Killer Shrews, The Manster and The Cyclops. I won't go into a lot of detail but now I know why they only had one star ratings. Any movies you used to think were good and when you watched them again asked yourself, "What was I thinking?"?

The Manster, I remember that one, the guy had an eye on his shoulder and eventually another head popped up! I saw that one as a kid and remember being frightened by it. I actually have that one in my B Horror collection but have never even opened it.
Attack of the Giant leeches is one that is just plain ridiculous, I never saw it as a child but watched it a couple of years ago and it was pretty bad!

Didn't attack of the killer shrews have dogs that had like sheepskins attached to them?

Re: Movies that haven't aged well
When I was a kid, Rodan came out and was playing in a downtown St. Louis theater. I took a bus from the 'burbs on a below zero winter day to see that 'must see' movie. I have it now on DVD. Just funny these days.
In 1975, Tommy was the rage. Fellow Baba Lover, Pete Townsend was involved. It seemed relevant at the time, but I later got the DVD and then gave it to the thrift shop. Could barely get thru it.

I like Tommy...I was just thinking how odd it is because most musicals have their characters break into song several times through the movie, but I can't recall hardly anybody just TALKING in Tommy, just goes from one song to the next to the next.

Do the Right Thing.
I bought it on DVD for cheap a few years ago and watched it last week. I cringed through most of it. This movie was a MUST SEE back in the day but it's awful now.

I can agree about Tommy but I still like Rodan. Time has diminished it somewhat for me but I have no problem watching it. I still find the end to be very sad.
When I was around 6, I thought The Sword and the Dragon (sword and sorcery flick from the Soviet Union of all places) was The Bomb. LOL, not anymore.

Carrie. The original with Sissy Spacek that blew everyone away in 1976. I could name item after item, all the performances, it doesn't hold up. Even the TV movie remake is ok compared to it.
Brian DePalma never was a subtle director but that doesn't even explain it.
I must add, everyone disagrees with me on this.

And I'd be one to disagree, Carrie still holds up and works for the same reason Rebel Without a Cause does, on a small scale it may be dated by the clothes and the cars and the scenery, but with the bigger picture, high school is hell, that is never going to die out, just as there's never going to be an end to ignored and confused kids.

Re: Movies that haven't aged well
Sorry DSC I have to disagree I think the movie holds up just fine today. It was scary then and it is still scary today. The movie Carrie II was a ridiculous movie that tried to capture the essence from the first and failed.
By the way, YES they are re-making Carrie!!!!!

Did Carrie II have any connection to the first? That always seemed like more a remake than a sequel.

Not that I could see.
And, does anyone else think it would be cool to take somebody who hadn't seen Carrie and doesn't know the ending, watch it in a dark room and when she's reaching out of the grave and grabbing Sue Snell, to out of nowhere GRAB their arm and see what happens?

Re: Movies that haven't aged well
Children Shouldnt Play With Dead Things - 1974 I saw this as a 7 yr old on channel 48's Creature Double Feature. A group of kids go into a cemetary and dig up a body & perform some sort of witchcraft ritual. They were making a movie or something. But the spells make all the dead come to life and it turns into a zombie film. Now, not only can u laugh ur butt off from the striped brady bunch pants and wide wide bell bottoms, but the "zombies" didnt exactly have the best make up either! lol

Probably War Games because technology has advanced so much since the movie was made.

I love that movie, even if it is a historical documentary now. Kids should be watching it in school to learn about text only Internet and brick sized mobile phones and modems that required a phone cradle for a landline phone.CeCe wrote:Probably War Games because technology has advanced so much since the movie was made.
