Not really a must, but I usually always put it on a bagel. Cream cheese is cool, but I can't stand when that shit is caked on. Too much of it doesn't taste good. I have to tell them to go very light on the cream cheese.

I only like toasted bagels, so I usually do butter.

Butter or margarine work just as well on a toasted bagel...in fact I don't care that much for cream cheese when the bagel is toasted.

Cream cheese is essential for bagels, cant eat just dry bread by itself.

No, there is butter and Jelly and cheese. I like to put American Cheese or Swiss Cheese on a bagel and put it in the Micro for about 20 seconds just enough to make the cheese soft and its like having a cheese melt! You can also make a sandwich out of a bagel chicken salad, cold cuts, mustard, mayo. Pizza Bagels too!! The bagel is very versatile!
