Is your area plagued to wild animals (snakes, tarantulas, bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc., etc.) that can occasionally be found on the loose?

Re: Wildlife in your area.
I recall hearing some stories last year about some bears on the loose here, but they were evidently caught.

Re: Wildlife in your area.
We've had bears, but mostly it's deer, skunks, chipmunks, squirrels and lots of hawks. There's also a beautiful red fox that cuts through my yard on occasion, and I fished an Eastern Painted turtle out of my pool, just last week. On the downside, we do have coyotes, too, and I've actually seen them come out in the daytime and be sniffing around in my yard. . . wish I'd had the camera for that one!

Mostly deer but also raccoon, opossum, wild turkey, turkey buzzards, hawks, squirrels. Maybe a few other species. The only "plague" are the squirrels when they get into the attic.

Re: Wildlife in your area.
Yes. Fortunately, most of the wildlife around these parts isn't particularly "dangerous" to humans. There are no moutain lions, wolves or bears around here.Chris wrote:Is your area plagued to wild animals (snakes, tarantulas, bears, wolves, mountain lions, etc., etc.) that can occasionally be found on the loose?
The area I'm around is mostly notible for such critters as:
Bobcats
Coyotes
Desert Foxes
Jackrabbits
Cotton Tails
Squirrels
Chipmunks
Turtles
Lizards
Gopher Snakes
And various birds (Hawks, Ravens, Sparrows, Doves, Quail, etc)
The only somewhat "dangerous" animals here that I can think of are: Rattlesnakes (the mojave green rattlesnake to be exact), Black Widow spiders and scorpions. But even though I know they are native to the area, I've never actually seen a mojave green rattler around my house. And black widows while venomous, are really not as serious a threat as people think they are. They're not going to kill you and they mostly keep to themselves anyway. Scorpions are about as dangerous as bumblebees. If they sting you it'll hurt and if your allergic you might need to go to the hospital. But again, they're not going to kill you and they mostly stay out of the way of larger "animals" like you.
Plus, I have a dog that instinctively chases and kills anything that happens to be smaller than she is, so I'm pretty safe.
