Do you usually tell the truth or do you give a polite response even if you're feeling like shit? My cannon reply always used to be "I'm fine thanks, how are you?" throughout all last year, despite me being the opposite of fine. Now I tell the truth and say "I'm better".

It depends on who asks. If it's someone I'd rather not talk to, then I'll say 'fine' and move on. If it's a friend or my mom (and I want to get it all off my chest) then I will be completely honest about if rattled about something.

I always just say "I'm good" and keep it moving. I'm not a person who gets into details about what's going on in my life.

I usually say good unless its a good friend and then I can say how I really feel.

When I was at 711 last week, the girl behind the counter asked me how I was, and I gave the automated "I'm good, how are you?" response. From there, I was treated to stories about her being sued by her neighbor because said neighbor stepped in her dogs crap. She wouldn't shut up. I tried to be polite as I kept itching closer to the door, finally I said I had to go. That got me to thinking that maybe I should reexamine how I answer that question.

"Fine, thanks."

Usually ends everything right there.

Even if I'm in a lousy mood, I'll say "fine" to anyone who asks that i don't wanna go into detail with. If it's somebody I wanna talk to in depth, then I'll say "BAD"....and then unload from there.

Yeah, if it is a close friend, I may elaborate, but otherwise, it is just the generic, "I'm good."

Somtimes I say, "I feel better than James Brown!" or "Not unwell. Hope you are the same."

It depends on who asks. If my Mom (someone who actually cares how I am) asks me, I'll tell her the honest truth. However, if a co-worker or a cashier at the checkout asks me how I am I'll always say "Fine thanks, and you?" - because let's be honest, these people don't really give it a shit how you are, they're either being polite and/or it's part of their job.

I usually just tell the truth. Like today, I feel like shit! And if someone asked me, I'd tell them!

Depends on who it is. If it's someone I'm close to, I'll answer more honestly. What I find funny is people who ask how you are and are already moving past you so that you either have to turn around and yell after them, or just ignore the question.
