    MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. — A Michigan jail inmate says he’s being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment because he can’t have pornography.

    In a handwritten lawsuit, 21-year-old Kyle Richards claims his civil rights are being violated at the Macomb County Jail. Richards says denying his request for erotic material subjects him to a “poor standard of living” and “sexual and sensory deprivation.”

    The Michigan Department of Corrections tells The Detroit News that prisons allow some pornographic material, though it’s banned at the jail. The American Civil Liberties Union says prisons have a lot of leeway.

    Richards was charged with bank robbery after police followed a trail of snowy footprints and dropped money to his apartment from a bank robbery scene in January in Fraser, north of Detroit.

    Richards pleaded guilty. Sentencing is Aug. 2.

    I think they should be allowed pornography, actually. Because it's better than prison rape.

    He has no idea what cruel and unusual punishment is.


    And no, the idea of prison is not supposed to be on a vacation enjoying yourself. He's got his hand and his imagination, he can go with that.

    Cruel and unusual punishment? Guy's a spoiled brat. You're in prison dude. You shouldn't get porn. We gotta stop making excuses for giving goodies to crooks.

    Denial of porn is not cruel just the usual for our sex-negative society that wishes to deny basic nature of men.

    Some prisons in backwater states like Florida, even try to punish inmates for masturbating - which should be considered cruel, the same as denying other basic bodily needs.

    ^^^^ You can live w/o a j/o. It is not a bodily "need" any more than gourmet food. If prisoners want porn, they'll have to rely on their memories. Razz

    It's just a frivolous lawsuit by someone with too much time on their hands. Still nowhere near as bad as some of the cases I've read about. And no, he shouldn't get porn.

    Some prisons still allow conjugal visits, don't they? I think it would be unfair if a prison allowed that but not porn materials.

    But, truthfully, I don't think they should have either.
