I'm too young to remember if there was a similar outcry over the stuffing as many people into a phone booth fad by the JDL or B'nai B'rith because it was too similar to the Nazis stuffing people into freight cars on the way to the gas chamber. This stupid fad began in the U.K., not Charleston, SC. This is just proof that everything will offend somebody.
.Rapper and former host of the MTV show "Pimp My Ride" Xzibit expressed his thoughts on Twitter over the new planking fad (watch a video of it). Xzibit claims the activity is not funny because it actually refers to a way slaves were transported on ships (find his Twitter page). Several celebrities have taken part in the new craze including Justin Bieber, Ellen Page and Rosario Dawson

ITA that it seems pointless and ITA that some people will search for any connection they can to try and turn something into a race issue. Xzibit's comments just make him sound like an idiot. Maybe all sports competitions are bad because the Romans once used gladiators for entertainment and surely we must be mocking the slaves who were forced to become gladiators to entertain the masses.

A site hosted a planking photo contest, and it was really upsetting to see that there were some dangerous ones with kids on them, including a girl on the to of a basketball hoop. How dangerous. I don't understand it either.
As stupid as I think it is, I don't think anyone that finds this interesting makes a slave transport connection to it. But I could be wrong.
