I let my step daughter and her friends have a big sleepover and they did prank calls, and someone did *69.

had a freak in the neighborhood who would say things like "the baby on your lap is wearing a nice red outfit", or "you look better in the jeans from yesterday".
The old party lines from the 50s were still hooked up and he terrorized several women on the street this way--- he could hear their conversations with other people, then would repeat it to them! twas scary

I recall when I was a teenager and had my own phone line someone calling me every night at around 9:30 for 2 weeks straight. The first day they called they said "14 days to the coming..." Then the next day "13 days to the coming..." Then "12 days to the coming..." Finally on the last day they called they said "The coming is HERE!" and started blasting some rock song in the background.
Weird.

We just listened in on the party line (Like everyone else) It was no less secure than cell phones are now, but ppl now don't realize how easy it is for third parties to listen to them.
Our only pranks were to call a random # and ask for John. (John is not here!)
After several times of that, we would call and say "This is John, have you gotten any calls for me."
The other one for younger kids was "Is your refrigerator running?" and after "yes" we'd say "then you better go catch it."
Times were once so innocent.

Last crank call I had was about 25 years ago, and the caller didn't really say much, just made weird sounds like he was tripping the light fantastic with his hand. 
But I could still "hear" who it was ~ a teenage boy from Guam that lived upstairs. I had just separated from my husband, and noticed the kid's behavior around me changing a bit now that I was living alone. He was a cute boy, but even then I wasn't into guys that young.
Back to the call, I said something really snotty in relation to what he was doing and hung up.
