What do think about washing a kids mouth out with soap? Was it ever done to you? Would you consider this a worthy method of punishment, or abuse?

It would be a very symbolic punishment for having a dirty mouth. I think it was done to me once, but can't really recall. It was very common for my gen.
I have used Kirk's Castille soap to brush my teeth as an adult. A little harsh taste but it rinses away. It would be hard-pressed to call it abuse - but who knows these days.

It was never done with us. Usually when we did something wrong, language wasn't the issue, attitude maybe...we saw that on A Christmas Story and...you know I think the fact that the mom could only hold it in for a couple of seconds herself was really saying something because adults are supposed to be able to endure more than kids.

I've never had it done, but I've seen my grandmother do it to a foster child of hers. I just see it as a form a punishment....not abuse. I don't know about 'worthy' punishment.
