I never really looked forward to my birthday--It sort of embarrassed me as a child, because I was born on Valentines Day, and kids used to tease me about it. Now, I sort of dread it a little because I can't stand all the over the top, consumerism that turns it into a mini-Christmas.

I look forward to my birthday every year because I want to see another year. But as far as it being anything grandiose, prob. 23.

I tend to start thinking of myself as being another year older about 6 months before my birthday so probably by the spring I'll be thinking of myself as 56. Except for a few giftees the day stopped being an occassion for me years ago.

I never was into having other ppl encroach upon a very personal day for me - one that would be best for my own reflections of the past year in private.
I absolutely hate surprise parties to which I have been victim a few times by friends and even co-workers. (Called to the conference room on a routine matter to be SURPRISED? There should be a policy against that)
On a couple of occassions I successfully forgot my B'day. It was sometime during the day that the date would impact me. Those are fun times for me. Unfortunately, my Russian co-workers never forget and I finally discovered why. In the Soviet Union they celebrated the Russian Revolution (whether they liked it or not) on the day before my B'day.

after my divorce. I strategically placed my wedding anniversary.
Dec - Big present
Feb - Big Vday present
July - Big Bday present
Oct - Big anniversary present
so i got a big present every few months!
After my divorce, July/Oct sorta disappeared
