It not only cushions against blisters but also absorbs sweat that would tend to make shoes, especially sneakers smell like ... well, sneakers.
Not that I wouldn't mind giving a foot massage to a young man who wore sneakers without socks.

All the time, until cold weather hits that is. That is, when I actually wear shoes and not just sandals. But yeah as a kid I went LONG times just wearing my shoes, no socks, I hate socks.

Never. I always wear socks with my sneaks. Not wearing socks with shoes is one of those random things that when I was growing up my mother stressed that I never do.
