Whoever invented them should be drug out into the street and shot. Any time that's used, we about half to vacate the house it makes us so sick.

There aren't any chemicals with a self cleaning oven. It's just the heat burning the residue off. You probably just need to do it more often. When I let it build up too much I have to open the windows but it's much safer than the oven cleaner sprays which are toxic.

I agree with what CeCe said.

Though I see what you are saying about the smell. Mine isn't the best smell when it happens either. I haven't done it in forever. But I don't really let it get that messy.

Ours doesn't either, and we ran it today and the oven doesn't look any different now than it did before.

Try cleaning it more often, and use the fan.

Once you go with a self clean you'll never go back!

I'd rather clean oven manually myself.

A world without self-cleaning ovens isn't one I wanna live in. I used to have to help my mother when she would manually clean the over. Taking out the racks to clean by hand and literally sticking your head inside the over with a sponge. Ugh. My oven is self-cleaning and I wouldn't have it any other way.
