My mother's read most of the Perry Mason mysteries over the years and I thought I'd check some of them out and see how they are. Naturally it made sense to start at the first book, Case of the Velvet Claws, written in 1933. Now in the 30s there were a few Perry Mason movies made but after seeing the Case of the Curious Bride it seems for those they highly romanticized Mason's character to make him more of a playboy or something. The books are a bit more nitty gritty that fit better with the immortalized Raymond Burr series of the 50s and 60s. But I digress, the first book so far is very good, I'm looking forward to see what happens once Perry REALLY gets to work now that there's been a murder. Anyone else read it?
