Zachary Quinto Feels 'Incredibly Grateful' Since Coming Out

NEW YORK -- Actor Zachary Quinto says he feels a range of emotions after coming out in a recent New York magazine interview but most of all he's grateful for the kindness he's received since.

"I feel so incredibly grateful to all of the people who've reached out to me directly or indirectly or just in spirit and I feel really, really like my entire future is laid out in a different way and it's thrilling and scary and overwhelming," said Quinto at the premiere of his film "Margin Call" Monday night in New York.

The 34-year-old looks forward to the day when saying you're gay "won't be hard" and won't matter.

"There've been people on this path who were much bigger trailblazers than me who did this at a time when it was even harder...and if me standing up and making some kind of acknowledgement and declaration helps that then I can't ask for anything more out of my life."

Quinto is best known for playing Spock in the latest "Star Trek" movie and for the TV show "Heroes."

He not only acts in "Margin Call" but also serves as an executive producer.

The film focuses on a group of bank employees during a 24 hour period as the 2008 financial crisis is about to hit. It stars a roster of celebrities including Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Simon Baker and Penn Badgley.

"Margin Call" opens October 21.

Wow I would never have thought that he was gay. I used to watch him in Heroes. Good for him glad that he has good feelings about it.

Strangely, I perceived he was gay all along, so I'm surprised that it's just coming out.

It's much more than just a guy being grateful. Zachary took a huge chance. The bigots are alive & well. He's a young good looking man with a bright future in acting who was willing to risk the consequences to his career. Not everyone gets the response Neil Patrick Harris did. It took courage. He's been shown support & he was simply expressing appreciation for it. It isn't easy for a gay man. It's getting there, slowly. I'm very proud of him. And also the news anchor who came out on tv who was covering the story. As this happens, one by one, it's another step forward & people will eventually have to get over it. And in the process if it helps someone who is struggling at any age it's a good thing.

I see plenty of out and open actors getting plenty of work. The "bigot's" threat, IMO, is overplayed in the modern age. Again, he's grateful. Not really seeing the news story here. And even if I bought the "he's taking a chance" argument, it's still kind of a funny report. Celebrities... They're a soap opera unto themselves.

No, it is not "overplayed". It can be career ending. That's a fact. People can & will turn on an actor or musician. For some it's their "fantasy" killer. He or she now no longer fits the image they had, whether it's that of the leading man or action guy or the romantic fantasy some have. And then there are the religious nuts who need no explanation.

And with all due respect if you don't see the news story I don't even know what to say. It's been made clear his reason & what prompted him to do it. And yes he took a chance in doing it. The age isn't as modern as you might like to think. If it were the struggle wouldn't be so hard. Gay rights would be law & marriage wouldn't even be an issue. So...no.

And who are these out & open actors "getting plenty of work", other than Steve Callahan, Matthew Montgomery, David Moretti, Dylan Vox & Peter Stickles?

Some people will quit. Others will join. The religious nuts have written off most of Hollywood so they don't even factor into celebrity discussions. lol I don't really see any celebrities losing their careers because they are gay. There is no story and there is no chance. It's all hooplah for people who like hooplah. (And people do like hooplah. Half the celebrities in Hollywood wouldn't even have a career without it.) Who are these actors being shunned solely because they are gay? lol If there isn't conflict, pretend there is. Ah, Hollywood!
