How old were you the first time you went to a library?

And how old were you the first time you got a library card?


For me, the answer to both is 13, better late than never but I don't intend to repeat that mistake when I have my own kids. How about everybody else?

6 or 7. I loved going to the library. I used to check out 15, 20 books at a time. What's amazing too is that I haven't lived in the area I grew up in for like 13 yrs. When I moved back to NY, I went to my old neighborhood library....basically just for nostalgic reasons.....to get a new card. Turns out they still had the same card from when I was little on file, complete with my old address. And I had a $4 fine. All I had to do was show them my ID and I got to renew the card without having to apply for a new one. Oh, I had to pay the fine too.

I got my first card when I could properly sign my name in cursive. Honestly, I don't know how old I was. I just recall loving having my own.

With my own son, I decided to wait a while after he could sign his own name. So, he got his at 10. It was such a fun day. Library visits are one thing that is just mine and his. We love to do it together.

I think I was about 8 years old when I had my first Library card.
