I say go for it, they are under US protection anyways so why not? Most of the population over there is bi-New York anyways so what the heck.

They should just leave well enough alone. If they're going to make PR a state, they should make Guam the 52nd.

It will happen some day but most likely not by their wanting it to. Citizens of Puerto Rico enjoy all of the benefits of being citizens of the USA, but none of the federal taxes. They know where their interests lie and will continue with the status quo, at least for the foreseeable future.

How about making the United States the 4th territory or 11th province of CANADA?
United States has already tried to claim Canada and failed. War of 1812? There's a reason that the White House had to be stonewashed after that battle.
Perhaps you'd like to join Canada, instead?

Bite me. We are proud to be Canadian and enjoy our sovereign status just fine, thanks.
Maybe the US would like to be a province? The universal health care alone would make US citizens heads spin.
To answer the question though, I think it's pretty certain that PR will become a US state at some point during this century.
