I'm not much into vintage silent films, but the 1925 Phantom of the Opera adaption is one I would recommend.

I still like to imagine how the theater audiences were blown away by Metropolis FX.

I recently saw Buster Keaton in The Cameraman at our local college, first time I've ever seen the movie save for the swimming pool segment, LOVED that movie.

Sad but true, but fortunately most of the time Turner Classic Movies has its annual Silent Sunday nights at 12/11c. We should be getting back to that now that we're about out of the Oscar-awards-only-movie-month.

Im sleeping by then but maybe I can DVR some of them, it would be fun to watch them. I just bought the entire Little Rascal collection, haven't seen them in a long time, can't wait to start watching them.

You should check out TCM's schedule on the website, you can check out the next three months of movies in advance and see when silent movies are going to be on and arrange for email reminders a day and a week in advance.

I like what you told me about that movie theatre by you that has the live music to go along with the movie, wish they had something like that here. I will check out the listing.

I never saw a silent movie but I just saw this site http://blogs.iguides.org/info/the-top-15-greatest-silent-films-ever-a-guide-for-certified-movie-fans.html

The Gold Rush with Charlie Chaplin looks good.

It's been several years since I saw The Gold Rush, but it was a good one.

Of that list, I've also seen Metropolis, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu (VERY good, better than Lugosi's Dracula), and Sherlock Jr., which is also VERY good and I highly recommend. On my list of to see from those are Greed, Phantom of the Opera, The General, City Lights, and Intolerance.

So are we fans of Chaplin? I know that he is regarded as the 'King' of the silent picture, but I have never had much desire to see any of his films. They all seemed a little too silly.

    But Chaplin

Have you seen much of Chaplin's work, Chris?

I've been sold on his films (shorts mainly) since I was about 13, although in recent years I've found Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd give him very much competition in the way of who's funnier.

Speaking of Charlie Chaplin, City Lights was a very good film; and I believe one of the last silent films to be produced in the 1930s.

His last REALLY silent film for sure...next I think was Modern Times which was KIND of a silent film because nobody talks, the ONLY time anybody talks, aside from his gibberish singing, was through the machines, the big, Big Brother TV walls, that was the only way you'd hear anybody talk in Modern Times, otherwise it's title cards.
